Cavity Prevention

Cavities

Preventing dental diseases, like cavities and gum disease, is the best way to help you avoid problems with your teeth. Regular check ups and cleanings are part of preventative dentistry, but doing your part at home is very important. Our team will help teach you how to prevent cavities for you and your family at home. X-rays allow the dentists to diagnose cavities when they are smaller then they would be able to see in your mouth. This will allow you to be able to have the cavity fixed before it gets larger and starts to cause you pain. Brushing your teeth twice daily and flossing once daily will help remove the plaque that forms on your teeth. Plaque is made up of many different bacteria, some that cause cavities and others that cause bad breath. By removing these bacteria daily, you can reduce your chances of getting cavities. Using products with fluoride, like toothpaste and mouthwash, will also help lower your cavity rate. Fluoride helps to strengthen your teeth which makes them less likely to get cavities. Fissure sealants help prevent cavities from forming on the deep grooves of some teeth. Check out our post about fissure sealants for more information.
